Child & Youth Mental Health Services

horse programs for troubled adolescents

MVCFS provides child and youth mental health services including stabilization, assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, and non-minor dependents (NMDs) up to 20 years of age of all Sexual Orientations, Gender Identity and Expressions (SOGIE), in both our residential and community-based programs. Children placed in our residential programs are determined to be in need of residential treatment by either their county Interagency Placing Committee (IPC) or through their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). With all our services, we aim to utilize the least restrictive interventions consistent with maintaining safety and effective treatment.

We have an array of comprehensive services for children and teens with emotional, behavioral, and educational challenges that are severe enough to keep them from functioning successfully in their homes, schools, and communities. Our programs help children overcome struggles which may include various mental health diagnoses, emotional disabilities, behavior disabilities, learning disabilities, or a combination of issues preventing successful functioning in less restrictive settings.

Challenges our children face include:

  • Physical & verbal aggression
  • Lack of impulse control
  • Anger Management Issues
  • Mood instability
  • Depression/anxiety
  • Peer & family conflict
  • Social challenges
  • Truancy
  • Suspension/expulsion from school
  • Isolation, withdrawal
  • Self- harm
  • Learning challenges

Our Mental Health Team

Mental Health Workers are the foundation of our child and youth mental health services. Client care, relationships, and safety stem from the everyday interactions with our dedicated direct-care personnel. Our child and youth mental health specialists share with, learn from, educate, and inspire clients and peers alike. Every day brings new challenges, but also new opportunities to have a positive impact on the lives of our children.

MVCFS strives to be the residential treatment center of choice with our growing treatment programs, the experience and expertise of our staff, our leadership team, our rural locations, and healthy outdoor environments.  We work hard to help clients reach their goals with a continuum of support, collaboration, and prevention while providing a homelike setting. The treatment team uses strength-based, trauma-informed, evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and supportive strategies to provide safe and effective learning opportunities. We believe that those we serve are capable of the positive permanent changes which benefit themselves and their communities. Our behavior support and management policies and procedures assist in promoting positive behavior while ensuring the safety of clients and staff.
